With a legacy spanning over 12 years, THE SOVIET is an indie rock band fusing the worlds of emo, post-hardcore, and rock music.
The Soviet is an indie rock band formed in 2011. Hailing from New Jersey, the band was formed by Aaron Brown and Josh Perna, then teenagers, after parting ways with metal band Lorna Shore. After recruiting bassist Alexander Long and drummer Kevin Boris, the band began carving a name for themselves in the dying embers of the music scene that had formed at the intersection of New Jersey and north-eastern Pennsylvania.
The band's musical style eschewed clean definition, blending emo lyrics with pop structure atop indie rock instrumentals, with production heavily influenced by guitar driven post-hardcore. Due to this wide range of genre influence, the band opened for acts such as Twenty One Pilots, Anberlin, Circa Survive, and the Front Bottoms.
After a series of demos that garnered them minor viral success and a devoted local following, the band released their debut EP entitled "Dead Language" in 2013. The 5 track record was produced and engineered by Greg Dunn of Moving Mountains at Telegraph Studios. The band toured the record regionally before calling a hiatus, its members scattering across the country.
On the ten year anniversary of Dead Language, The Soviet returned, re-issuing the "Dead Language EP" and announcing a follow-up record to be released in 2025.
